Whether you’re visiting Colorado from out of town or just looking for something fun and unique things to do with your partner, there’s something for everyone! There are so many cool areas of Colorado to explore and it’s perfect for a couple’s trip or weekend getaway. I’m sharing some of my favorite things to do as well as things that are on my Colorado bucket list.
Hike around Red Rocks or go to a concert
If you’re visiting Colorado for the first time, visiting Red Rocks is a staple! Check their events calendar to see if there’s a concert you want to go to. It’s also a fun place to hike around and explore during the day. Just be prepared for the amount of stairs there are! It’s a popular place for a workout if that’s your style.
If you’re visiting the mountains, taking a gondola ride is such a fun thing to do
Breckenridge has a free gondola that will take you to the base of the mountain and you can stop for a drink at T-bar or pair it with a spa day at the Infinity Spa at Grand 8. It’s probably the easiest to get to from Denver.
Telluride is also free and known as one of the best views if you’re up for the travel!
Aspen, Keystone, Vail, and Steamboat also have a gondola, but you have to buy a ticket (usually $50 per person).
Horseback through the mountains
Horseback riding is such a peaceful way to enjoy the views in Colorado.
A guided fly-fishing trip on the river
If you and your partner are up for a little fishing, floating down the river is one of my favorite Colorado experiences! You get to see the most amazing sights while fishing one of Colorado’s gorgeous rivers. There are so many guided fly fishing trips which is my personal favorite way to be able to experience.
Soak in a hot spring
Going to a hot springs has always been one of my favorite things to do in Colorado and perfect for either a winter or summer activity.
Strawberry springs in Steamboat is one of my favorites. It’s the perfect balance of feeling natural, but with manmade ammenities.
Pagosa Springs Resort has been on my bucket list for more of a spa resort experience. A bit of a trek to get to
Take an epic train ride through the mountains
There are so many scenic train rides through Colorado, and would be such a fun activity! Be sure to make a reservation in advance and check their calendars for operating seasons!
If you’re looking for a big adventure across Colorado, The Rocky Mountaineer starts in Denver and ends in Moab. It’s a multi-day experience with incredible views all over the state. Perfect for a honeymoon or a trip of a lifetime!
There are endless places for a gorgeous drive around Colorado. It’s a great way to see the sights.
Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton is one of the most stunning drives
Trail Ridge Road (Estes Park to Grand Lake)
Guanella Pass – perfect (and busy) during fall for leaf peeping
Dog sledding in Breckenridge
Dog sledding is such a fun and unique activity! We booked at GoodTimes in Breckenridge and it was so much fun! I wasn’t expecting it to be such a thrill, but it was! Now, when people come to visit in the winter we always add dog sledding to the list of things to do!
Try a Via Ferrata
A via ferrata is not in the cards for me (hello, fear of heights), but if you’re adventurous and love a good adrenaline rush, this could be one of the most epic experiences. Telluride’s Via Ferrata is one of the most popular, but also check out the new one at A-basin ski resort.
Sleigh ride dinner
If you’re visiting in the winter, try a horse drawn sleigh ride in the snow. You can either do a private and romantic sleigh ride, or some companies do sleigh ride dinners if you’re looking for a fun and unique western experience.
My photography journey started in 2009 when I fell in love with documenting moments and capturing people in their element.
11 years ago, I moved to the amazing little mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Wild to say I've photographed over 300 weddings and portrait sessions all over. I started this small but mighty team of local mountain photographers to capture whatever season of life you're in.
