Breckenridge, Colorado. Quite possibly one of the most beautiful places in the US and certainly no lack of views for your wedding venue backdrop. Seasons: Is a winter wonderland wedding your dream? December through March is your window. But if you’re not into the idea of your guests wearing thermal underwear under their suits, summer is incredible. Late June through September is our peak summer. Want something a little quieter and okay with changing weather and restaurant closures? May, October and November are known as ‘mud season’ with fewer crowds.
Getting Around: If you’re staying in Downtown Breckenridge, it’s very walkable and there’s a free shuttle. It still is an hour and a half from Denver so you’ll either want to rent a car or book a shuttle. There are so many places to explore so I would recommend renting a 4-wheel drive car. While we do have Uber or a taxi service, they’re limited and not always reliable.
Accommodations: There’s a lodge, condo, or Airbnb to fit every style and budget. Just remind your guests to book early, especially if you’re getting married during peak ski season or summer festivals.
It’s true! In Colorado, you don’t need to have an officiant and can do it yourself! This is great for the couples who just want a super low-key day and such a fun way to do it however you want!
One option is hiring an officiant for a religious ceremony or just wanting a little more structure and to take the pressure off knowing what to do.
You could also have a close friend or family member marry you! I feel like this is one of the best ways to incorporate someone important in your life!
Pro tip: you can even have your dog (or any pet) sign your marriage license.
If you want something less structured or just the two of you, you don’t need anyone! You can just get your marriage license and do it however you wish!
Here’s the website to get a marriage license in Breckenridge.
Weather: Being that Summit County is around 9000ft, the weather is so different than the rest of the world! Colorado’s weather is unpredictable so make sure your guests know to pack for all possibilities. Layers are key!
Winter:
December – Average temps: 30° / 19°
December makes for a true winter wonderland.
Fun events like Ullr fest, Christmas and all the events that come along with it.
Plan on larger crowds
January – Average temps: 31° H / 19° L
Known to be a little colder, but amazing skiing!
February – Average temps: 31° H / 19° L
Similar to January
March – Average temps: 38° / 25°
The sun starts to stay out a little longer and sweet spring skiing is here!
Still full snowy winter mixed with spring break!
“Mud Season”
April – Average temps: 43° / 30°
A few ski resorts start closing and winter is slowing down. We’re not out of the thick of it yet!
April will still bring snow storms, but restaurants will start to close for their seasonal cleaning. Still plenty open, fewer crowds and muddy trails.
May – Average temps: 52° / 38°
Similar to April as we wait for the snow to melt on all the trails and summer to start.
Our summers (and even spring) take a little extra long time to thaw out.
Summer
June – Average temps: 66° / 50°
The start of summer! Mid-end of June brings a little more green and a little less mud.
A beautiful contrast with the snowy peaks that hasn’t melted at high elevations.
July – Average temps: 72° / 56°
Prime wildflower season! It feels like summer is finally here!
Town is bustling again and the temperatures are quite literally perfect.
Always bring a little jacket as the weather can change in an instant. Prepare for all conditions!
August – Average temps: 68° / 53°
A beautiful summer month and the cooler breeze tells you fall is on it’s way!
September – Average temps: 63° / 48°
Fall is here and the cooler temperatures are coming!
“Mud Season”
October – Average temps: 50° / 37°
A quieter time to come as the ski resorts are waiting to open, but cooler temperatures.
November – Average temps: 39° / 28°
Ski resorts slowly start to open and winter is on it’s way! Still a quiet time around town, but it will pick up around the holidays.

Hi! I'm Kelsey!
My photography journey started in 2009 and I fell in love with documenting moments and capturing people in their element.
10 years ago, I moved to the amazing little mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado from in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Wild to say I've photographed over 300 weddings and portrait sessions all over. I started this small but mighty team of local mountain photographers to capture whatever season of life you're in.
