Best places to stay in Summit County, Colorado

Heading to the mountains? I’m sharing a few of my favorite places to stay for your trip to Summit County whether you’re visiting Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, Keystone, or Copper. Most towns in Summit County are about 15-30 minutes away from each other, which makes it easy to explore!

Each town offers their own little mountain charm with so much to do and explore. As they say, come for the winter, stay for the summer. It’s a magical place to visit any time of the year!

As a local photographer in Dillon, I’ve been lucky enough to explore and photograph these spots over the last decade and happy to share my recommendations!

Summit County Mountain Towns

• Breckenridge: The most popular town with a bustling Main Street, ski resort, tons of food and bar options.
• Frisco: A smaller, quieter version of Breck with easy access to I-70 and a cute downtown.
• Silverthorne: A growing commercial area with lots of new restaurants popping up. You can also find lots of remote mountain homes and gorgeous hiking.
• Dillon: Laid-back town on Lake Dillon close to i-70.
• Keystone: A resort village great for ski trips to Keystone or a peaceful getaway.
• Copper: More low-key resort village than Keystone or Breck, but a solid base for ski days or summer hikes.

Vacation rentals vs. hotels in Summit County

There’s no lack of places to stay in Summit County! As it’s a big destination area, you can find something for everyone. If you’re looking for a one stop shop with all the amenities, a hotel is probably your best bet. Most hotels in the area have hot tubs, shuttle services, and some will have on-site bars, restaurants or spa services. If you’re looking to have a little more privacy, check out a rental home or cabin. You can find anything from a cute, small A-frame for two people to a luxurious home rental for the whole family.

Where to stay in Breckenridge

Breckenridge is perfect for the whole family, couples, or for solo adventures! There’s so much to do for everyone! It’s a bustling little mountain town, the cutest main street, and many amazing places for food, drinks and mountain adventures.

If you like to be close to the hustle and bustle, stay closer to Main Street and Breckenridge Resort. If you want something a little quieter, secluded, and remote, check out cabin vacation rentals a little outside of town like towards Blue River.

1. Gravity Haus in Breckenridge

A trendy, modern boutique ski-in ski-out hotel right at the base of Peak 9 and right off Main Street! The best of both worlds. They have all the amenities like a restaurant and bar, coffee shop, dry sauna, and gear rentals.

If you’re looking for a similar spot, check out The Village at Breck right next door for condos with kitchens and a more traditional family atmosphere.

2. Grand Colorado on Peak 8 in Breckenridge

The mecca for the ski trip experience! Tucked a little further from town, but a quick bus ride or drive into town, this is the perfect luxury ski vacation. This has everything you need for a ski-in ski-out experience. A full spa, a restaurant, coffee shops, an arcade, and even a private movie theatre. This is one of my favorite spots for a treat yo’self staycation!

There are so many gorgeous vacation rentals in Breckenridge if you’re looking for a little more privacy or a want little more room to spread out with a homier vibe. You can find a cute cabin in the woods to this luxurious home for the whole family.

Where to stay in Silverthorne

Silverthorne is a growing little town in Summit County. It’s got more of a commercial, local feel in some areas, but some really cool new additions and other amenities like Bluebird Market, a Target and outlets! It’s a good base area near i-70 if you want to explore Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, Copper, and many of the other nearby towns.

1. The Pad in Silverthorne

Summit Counties’ newest modern boutique hostel! This spot is close to Keystone and Copper Mountain and right in the heart of Silverthorne. There’s a spot for everyone, daily activities (trivia is my personal favorite), and right on the Blue River.

2. Hotel Indigo in Silverthorne

One of Silverthorne’s newest hotels, Hotel Indigo is a modern and trendy hotel in the heart of Silverthorne’s ‘downtown’ addition at 4th Street Crossing! While the ‘downtown’ area isn’t quite like Breckenridge or Frisco, there are a handful of cool places a short walk away for food, drinks, coffee, and anything else you need!

Silverthorne has a mix of luxury condos closer to their ‘downtown’ to remote, beautiful mountain homes and everything in-between.

Where to stay in Frisco, CO

Frisco is the perfect location, and right in the middle of Summit County and easy to get around to Breckenridge or other towns. While Frisco’s main street is quieter than Breckenridge, it’s got a similar, unique mountain town charm with so much to check out. Take a stroll window shopping down Main Street, find a fun hike, or walk to the Lake Dillon. It’s one of my personal favorite towns!

Frisco has anything from walkable townhomes to main street to more secluded mountain homes.

Where to stay in Keystone

Keystone is a cute little resort area/town that’s a little more secluded and peaceful! Keystone Village has more of a resort feel with lots of places to eat, and people going skiing and snowboarding and can be a little quieter in the summer if there’s not a festival!

1. Ski Tip Lodge B&B

This B&B will make you feel like you’re in a European town! Tucked away from the main part in Keystone, this is such a quiet and unique stay! An amazing culinary experience, a cozy atmosphere, and unique touches all throughout.

Keystone has anything like giant, beautiful, remote homes for the whole family to condos in the heart of the ski village.

Where to stay in Dillon

Dillon is a pretty quiet town with gorgeous views of Lake Dillon, close grocery stores and i-70. It’s a little more lively in the summers with the Dillon Farmer’s Market (on Fridays) and concerts at the amphitheater.

1. Homewood Suites on Lake Dillon

Homewood Suites is a perfect option if you’re looking for an easy hotel option! It’s got gorgeous views of Lake Dillon and an upstairs bar and restaurant, The Vue.

Vacation rentals in Dillon

You’ll find lots of condos right on Lake Dillon, but you can also find larger vacation homes if you’re coming with a crew.

Visiting Summit County, Colorado
