If you’re looking for a low-key location for your small wedding or elopement ceremony around the Breckenridge area, Sapphire Point is stunning! The overlook sits at the top of Lake Dillon with gorgeous mountain, forest and lake views.
As a local photographer in Dillon, Sapphire Point is such a special place where I’ve been able to photograph so many elopements, proposals and couples. It’s also one of our favorite spots to bring visitors. It’s easy to get to, beautiful views and a Breckenridge staple.
Sapphire Point is one of the most accessible hiking trails in Summit County, with lots of beautiful spaces for photos. A permit is needed to reserve the overlook space.
Edited for 2025: They are currently planning to renovate the space and have limited availability for 2025. Check out our list of Breckenridge wedding venues if you’re looking for an alternative option!
Winter Elopement at Sapphire Point
These two chose Sapphire Point as their backdrop for their New Year’s elopement. It was the perfect intimate and snow ceremony for these two plus their kiddos.
Getting ready in downtown Breckenridge
They spent the morning getting ready in their gorgeous rental home right by the gondola in Breckenridge. There’s just something so special about the town covered in snow and decorated for the holidays.
Snowy elopement ceremony at Sapphire Point Overlook
These to came to Breckenridge with their closest friends and family for their wedding day! It was a cooler summer day in Colorado and the perfect moody clouds. Everything seems so relaxed with with smaller group with so much time to spend with everyone.
Getting ready at a Breckenridge vacation rental
These two spent the morning getting ready in their vacation rental in Blue River with their friends and family where they did a first look and then set off for the ceremony! Their two-level home was perfect for the bride getting ready upstairs and the groom on the basement level.

Ceremony at Sapphire Point Overlook
The rain cleared out which was the perfect timing for their ceremony. They incorporated the sweetest family speeches into the ceremony.
Small reception at Dillon Marina Pavilion
We headed down Swan Mountain to Dillion Pavilion Park which is yet another stunning spot by the lake. Perfect for low-key events, weddings or a BBQ.
Right on the water, next to the Amphitheater and surrounded by gorgeous views. Makes for the perfect spot for photos. It was a chilly, rainy day so having a roof over our heads to keep out of the drizzle was great. I always recommend preparing for all sorts of weather.
Rainy days in the summer can bring cool temperatures so make sure you’re prepared to keep your guests cozy!
Availability: Weddings are year-round at Sapphire Point making it one of the most popular spots for a small wedding or elopement in Breckenridge. They allow reservations 6 months in advance on their website – Book Sapphire Point Overlook.
Reservations are booked in 3-hour increments to use the Overlook area and the fee is $120. Note that your reservation allows you to use the Overlook space, but does not block off the ‘Sapphire Point trail’ making it not 100% private and allows for bystanders to watch your ceremony. Some will leave signage saying ‘quiet, wedding in place’ or something along those lines.
Capacity: You can host weddings up to 30 people (including vendors + kids) at Sapphire Point. 30 people might be a bit of a stretch for the overlook area, so keeping it closer to 20 people will help!
*note: don’t forget to leave room in your layout for your photographer to move around the space freely, so they’re able to get all sorts of angles.
Where should I stay?
Sapphire Point is just outside of The Town of Breckenridge and a quick 10-15 minute drive. It’s up a windy, steep road (Swan Mountain) so be sure to have a suitable 4-wheel drive car in the winter to make it up the hill! Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon or Keystone would also make great towns to stay in. They are about 5-25 minutes from Sapphire Point.
Hi! I'm Kelsey!
My photography journey started in 2009 when I fell in love with documenting moments and capturing people in their element.
11 years ago, I moved to the amazing little mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Wild to say I've photographed over 300 weddings and portrait sessions all over. I started this small but mighty team of local mountain photographers to capture whatever season of life you're in.
