Breckenridge, Colorado. Quite possibly one of the most beautiful places in the US and certainly no lack of views for your wedding venue backdrop, things to do and places to stay. You’re surrounded by mountain views, fun and cute mountain towns, and lots to do for all of your guests! From skiing and snowboarding to hiking and mountain biking, your friends and family won’t be disappointed. Encourage your guests to arrive a few days early to soak it all in. As a local Breckenridge wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to spend most of my time at these venues, and happy to share my honest opinion and experience with you!
Summit County makes up some of the cutest little mountain towns all within a few minutes of each other. Breckenridge is the most popular and most visited, but be sure to check out Frisco, Keystone, Silverthorne, and Dillon. They all offer their own charm, but very similar and close in distance! Summit County is roughly 1 1/2-2 hours from Denver International Airport. While it’s a bit of a drive, there are many ways of transportation to and from DIA.

Copper Mountain just added its newest wedding venue and we’re so excited for it! A gorgeous on-mountain experience complete with a gondola ride. Currently offering summer weddings and we’re crossing our fingers that winter wedding bookings will open up.
The cost of a wedding in Breckenridge can vary greatly depending on your venue! There are smaller, more low-key wedding venues that run in the $150 range to rent for a few hours for the space only. There are other more ‘luxury’ venues like on the ski resort will start at a minimum of $11,000 and can average roughly around $25,000-$35,000. Most of the more luxury venues will include food, beverage, and rentals into the minimum.
If you’re staying in Downtown Breckenridge, it’s very walkable and there’s a free shuttle. It’s still an hour and a half from Denver so you’ll either want to rent a car or book a shuttle. There are so many places to explore so I would recommend renting a 4-wheel drive car. While we do have Uber or a taxi service, they’re limited and not always reliable.
Is a winter wonderland wedding your dream? December through March is your window. But if you’re not into the idea of your guests wearing thermal underwear under their suits, summer is incredible. Late June through September is our peak summer. Want something a little quieter and okay with changing weather and restaurant closures? May, October, and November are known as ‘mud season’ with fewer crowds.
Accommodations: There’s a lodge, condo, or Airbnb to fit every style and budget. Just remind your guests to book early, especially if you’re getting married during peak ski season or summer festivals. Check out this list of hotels and things to do while you’re visiting!
It’s true! In Colorado, you don’t need to have an officiant and can do it yourself! This is great for the couples who just want a super low-key day and such a fun way to do it however you want!
One option is hiring an officiant for a religious ceremony or just wanting a little more structure and to take the pressure off knowing what to do. You could also have a close friend or family member marry you! I feel like this is one of the best ways to incorporate someone important in your life!
Pro tip: you can even have your dog (or any pet) sign your marriage license.
If you want something less structured or just the two of you, you don’t need anyone! You can just get your marriage license and do it however you wish! Here’s the website to get a marriage license in Breckenridge.
Hi! I'm Kelsey!
My photography journey started in 2009 when I fell in love with documenting moments and capturing people in their element.
11 years ago, I moved to the amazing little mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Wild to say I've photographed over 300 weddings and portrait sessions all over. I started this small but mighty team of local mountain photographers to capture whatever season of life you're in.
