Nervous for engagement pictures? Here are a few tips for those low-key couples

Lets be real. We’ve ALL felt awkward taking a picture at one point or another and getting your photos done is no walk in the park. I remember getting my senior photos done and you could see the awkward in the picture.
Luckily, your engagement photos will be some of the best memories. A moment to capture and celebrate this new chapter of life. The imperfect little moments that make up your relationship.
Pictures don’t always have to feel awkward. You just have to do them right! Setting yourself up for success if going to give you the best experience.
1. Find the right photographer for YOU
I can’t preach HOW important finding the right photographer for YOU is. Not your mom, not the photographer from your best friend’s wedding, but who do you click with?! You’re spending hours with this person.
Do you love their editing style? Do you love how they capture the day and document people? You want someone that you can feel 100% comfortable and let loose with.
2.Do something in your element
If you’re nervous to be in front of the camera then doing an activity (and something that you feel comfortable and confident in) is going to bring out authentic laughs and giggles. It won’t even feel like you’re taking pictures.
Love fishing? Check out this fly-fishing engagement session! Sailing? Love eating pizza and desserts? Lets order take out (enough for me too, please.) If you don’t love hiking, it’s probably going to show when we’re climbing up a mountain and you’re not enjoying yourself. These two had the best time exploring around the mountains for their session.
3. Wear something that you feel good in
We all have that one outfit we feel like Beyonce in and our self-confidence goes from 0 to 100. Be mindful not to wear something that only looks good on one side, while standing still or you constantly have to adjust. We’ll likely be moving and walking through all sorts of terrain so wear something you feel comfortable walking in for a few hours around all sorts of Colorado terrain.
Do you want different looks? Opt for a dressier look and then a casual one. Ask your partner what their favorite outfit of yours is.
The whole process from choosing a location to your photos, we’ll be there to give you guidance. Trust us in the process of choosing the best timing with weather and lighting, location logistics and even what to do during photos!
We’ll set everything up in advance so you’re able to show up, let loose and be yourself.
6. Keep moving
The last thing I want you to feel is stiff, uncomfortable or forced! No need to hold long poses perfectly. We’ll be talking all through your photos and capturing those sweet inbetween moments that show your connection and personality.
7. Just be yourself!
Awkward laughs also welcome. The best photos usually come from the most unexpected moments. Will I include blooper photos? The good ones? Absolutely.
Hi! I'm Kelsey!
My photography journey started in 2009 when I fell in love with documenting moments and capturing people in their element.
11 years ago, I moved to the amazing little mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Wild to say I've photographed over 300 weddings and portrait sessions all over. I started this small but mighty team of local mountain photographers to capture whatever season of life you're in.
