What’s in my camera bag? My favorite photography gear

I’ve finally collected a fair amount of camera and photo gear over the last decade as a wedding photographer! I’m sharing what’s in my camera bag that I use regularly for weddings and photo sessions.
My Camera Bodies
I started with my first Canon Rebel from Goodwill in 2008. I’ve since stayed with Canon as it feels most comfortable in my hands! Every time I go to upgrade my camera body, I’ll rent the cameras to compare. I found that Sony just doesn’t feel comfortable in my hands and I don’t like where the buttons are on a Nikon. That’s just a personal preference so try renting a few different cameras to see what feels most comfortable in your hands and then take it for a test drive.
My current main body! I upgraded from my Mark III and have LOVED the update. Bigger files and more expensive memory cards, but so worth it! An incredible camera!
CANON MARK III (my backup)
At one point was my shining star and now is a backup and something I use for fun.
Currently my go-to lens. I love the flexibility of it for weddings and portraits however sometimes I miss my prime lenses. I love the ability to go to 2.0 and wish I had that VS. my 2.8
My other favorite lens that stays on my 2nd camera. It’s so gorgeous for moments like vows, speeches, toasts etc. and can be really fun to play with for portraits!
Choosing what memory cards you get matters! There are many cheap memory cards out there, but I recommend reliable and fast memory cards. The cameras listed above have huge files that not only take up lots of space but have lots of data that takes time to write.
If I’m doing a smaller session, or need to blend in a little more, I’ll wear my backpack! I usually can fit my two cameras with (smaller) lenses as well as my accessories in the compartment up top! It has a spot for my laptop as well. It’s been great for travel, but I’m ready to upgrade soon to something more comfortable for hiking and not as hot.
Not necessarily in my camera bag, but I have these with my in my car for every session. Great in case of rain or wild weather! They never leave my car.
An emergency kit
A great thing to keep on hand with tape, scissors, sunscreen, tide pens, tissue, electrolyte packages, dog bags, sewing kit, safety pins, mints or gum, bandaids, hand sanitizer, hair ties, food bars. The list goes on. These are normal things that come up on a wedding day or session!
Hi! I'm Kelsey!
My photography journey started in 2009 when I fell in love with documenting moments and capturing people in their element.
11 years ago, I moved to the amazing little mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Wild to say I've photographed over 300 weddings and portrait sessions all over. I started this small but mighty team of local mountain photographers to capture whatever season of life you're in.
